Shape and Size: Ellipsoid to subcylindric, 6.5-8.2 x 3-4 µm.

Melzer's Reaction: Not distinctive.
Comments: The spores of this genus may be difficult to differentiate from those of Gastroboletus. Some mycologists combine the genus Gastrosuillus into the mushroom genus Suillus.

Shape and Size: 10-35 mm, convex to irregular or depressed. Stem and columella present.
Peridium: Glabrous and slightly viscid, brown.
Gleba: White to pale yellow, purple reaction to KOH. Composed of multiple tubes or open chambers.
Odor: Mild.

Name Derivation

Named by distinguished mycologist of western U.S., Harry Thiers (1919-2000) (1989) for the species formerly in Gastroboletus that have a strong relation to the genus Suillus.
