South Ridge Bully Creek Research Natural Area (RNA) was established to represent a number of shrub steppe communities in excellent ecological condition that grow as distinct entities and as mosaics. The RNA lies on gently rolling hills and slopes. Big sagebrush/Thurber needlegrass (Artemisia tridentata/Achnatherum thurberianum) and big sagebrush-squaw apple/Idaho fescue (Artemisia tridentata-Peraphyllum ramosissimum/Festuca idahoensis) are common plant communities while threetip sagebrush (Artemisia tripartita) and bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata) are also present.
