Rahilly-Gravelly Research Natural Area (RNA) was established to represent high quality bunchgrasses and a diversity of shrubs. The RNA is made of plateaus and foothills with steep slopes. Western juniper (Juniperus occidentalis) dominates the area with big and low sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata, A. arbuscula) as dominant shrubs. Wild crabapple (Peraphyllum ramosissimum), bitterbrush (Purshia tridentate), and yampah (Perideridia species) are also present. Bureau sensitive species Cooper's goldflower (Hymenoxys cooperi var. canescens) represent the only populations of this plant in Oregon.
