Mahogany Ridge Research Natural Area (RNA) was established to represent undisturbed stands of mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius) trees. The topography is characterized by steep slopes and dissected canyons. The RNA is dominated by mountain mahogany but also includes high elevation curlleaf mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius)/big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) and mountain mahogany/Oregon grape (Mahonia aquifolium) plant communities. Owyhee clover (Trifolium owyheense), a special status plant species, is also present on the RNA.
