Lake Ridge Research Natural Area (RNA) was established to represent silver sagebrush (Artemisia cana)/bluegrass (Poa) flat, low sagebrush (Artemisia arbuscula)/bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata), and low sagebrush/Idaho fescue (Festuca idahoensis) plant communities. The RNA lies on a broad plateau dissected by steep canyons, with Tim's Peak rising to the north. A naturally occurring waterhole provides a perennial source of water. Soils are rocky, shallow clays and clay loams over basalt. Low sagebrush (Artemisia arbuscula) plant communities dominate the RNA whlie bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata) and Idaho fescue (Festuca idahoensis) are also common. The silver sagebrush/bluegrass (Artemisia cana/Poa) plant community is also present.
