Keating Riparian Research Natural Area (RNA) / Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) was established to represent a mountain alder/black hawthorn (Alnus incana/Crataegus douglasii) riparian community. The RNA lies primarily within a narrow riparian canyon bottom surrounded by steep slopes and ridges. Vegetation is shrub steppe dissected by an excellent condition riparian zone with diverse vegetation. Bebb's sedge (Carex bebbii), a special status species also grows within the RNA.
