Holton Creek Research Natural Area (RNA) was established to represent an old growth Douglas-fir/white fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii/Abies concolor) forest and for the calcareous deposits and resulting formations in the stream channel. White and Douglas-fir are dominant tree species throughout the RNA while ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) and pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii) dominate the ridgelines.
