Foster Flat Research Natural Area (RNA) was established to represent a late seral silver sagebrush (Artemisia cana)/Nevada blue grass (Poa nevadensis) community. The RNA is located entirely on a flat playa. The silver sagebrush/Nevada bluegrass plant community is present on areas of the playa that flood during the winter and early spring. Desert comb-leaf (Polyctenium fremontii var. confertum), common spikerush (Eleocharis palustris), big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata), Nebraska sedge (Carex nebrascensis), and Cusick bluegrass (Poa cusickii) are also common throughout the RNA.
