Guest Speaker: John Acorn - University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta. Topic TBA. Lecturer, Entomologist, Broadcaster, author of "The Terminal Segment" for the American Entomologist, writer and author, and host of two television shows.
Scholarship Presentation: Greg Smith, graduate of UNBC. "An assessment of interactions between endemic mountain pine beetle and a secondary bark beetle species".
Guest Speakers: The 1910 Fire, History, and Ecology. Sarah Wilson, Zone Archeologist and Art Zack, Ecologist/Silviculturist - Idaho Panhandle National Forests.
Plenary Session 1: The relationships of fire and insects. Moderator TBA. Topics will explore the influences of insects on fire behavior, and the influence of fire on insect activities.
Plenary Session 2: The relationships of climate change and insects. Moderator TBA. Topics will explore climate change and insect outbreak implications, effects of insect-killed trees on climate, and effects of climate on forests and insects.
Workshop Topics:
Field Trip: Coordinated by Mike Johnson and Darci Carlson. Trip will include stops at the Valley View wildfire, the old Kaiser Aluminum Plant to discuss black pineleaf scale, and Spokane's Riverside Park.
