

In 1927, Paul Keen flew in this Forest Service fire patrol airplane to photograph western pine beetle-killed trees on the Modoc N.F., California. Piloted by Capt. Boggs, they donned goggles and parachutes and were "off like a Chalcophora scared from a tree ... over the plot I unbuckled the safety belt, knelt on the seat and hung out over the side ...
