Description of SBexpert

SBexpert is a knowledge-based decision support system for spruce beetle management in southcentral Alaska that runs in Microsoft Windows. Last revision of Version 2.0 was on November 19, 1996.

The application is written in KPWin++ and consists of four programs:

• SBexpert performs hazard and risk analyses for Lutz, white, and Sitka spruce in southcentral Alaska.
• SBtext is an electronic textbook that covers spruce beetle biology, ecology, and management. It includes lots of nifty figures and some some of the major literature references.
• SBlit provides literature search capabilities based on author and keyword searches. The bibliography is very comprehensive, and current to about spring 1994.
• SBhelp provides extensive help on use of the system.
