The
goal of the meetings of the IUFRO Unit on Molecular Biology of Forest Trees
is to share the results of studies on the molecular function, diversity,
and modification of forest trees.
The genetic composition and function of forest trees is critical to the
health and productivity of forests. The methods of molecular biology provide
powerful tools for furthering knowledge, conservation, management, and breeding.
An open, global exchange of scientific information, and discussion of the
goals, ethics, and consequences of genetic modifications to forests that
are informed by sound science, are key responsibilities of this community
of scholars.
