Olympic Peninsula Vegetation Mapping Created by Karin S. Fassnacht, Julie Browning, K.C. Kroll, and Chris Grob

The image shows final mosaicked maps of (a) total green vegetation cover, (b) conifer cover, (c) broadleaf (= hardwood + shrub + herb) cover, and (d) quadratic mean diameter of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. Maps of these same cover types are being produced for nine provinces in western Oregon and Washington as part of the Interagency Vegetation Mapping Project. Primary end users of these maps are the government groups doing effectiveness monitoring of the Northwest Forest Plan. The maps are being made using Landsat TM-5 data and are available to the public. Maps and associated metadata for provinces that have been completed to date are available at: Oregon BLM web page
