Speaker: Sally Duncan: Technology and Meaning in Natural Resource Management: the story-maiking role of GIS in the CLAMS project.

Snacks: John Wells
Note taker: Theresa Valentine
Attending: Keith, Matt, Sally, Terralyn, Theresa, John, Kelly, Kuuipo,Ray

Meeting Agenda:

Meetings:
  • DOQ Meeting in Salem 12/15. Theresa attended a state meeting about DOQ purchases for 2005 and beyond. There will be 2005 DOQ's available for Oregon at the 1 meter and .5 meter resolution. They are looking at Color Infra-red. Uncompressed space would be 9.38 TB. We'll need to figure out how to get the data (via an external hard-drive) and how to store. DOQ's should be available for Washington State in 2006. We could also decide to only get the 1 meter and not the 1/2 meter, depending on needs. Theresa will also be putting an index in data/fordata/index that shows the extent of 2004 color DOQ coverage. I have most of the extent, but we might have to pay a small amount of money to get the full extent.
  • Forest Service/BLM Meeting April 18-22 in Phoenix
  • OSU ITCC Digital Asset Management (DAM). Terralyn is a member of this group that is looking at campus wide solutions for large digital holdings (mostly image). She's trying to figure out where our GIS data fits.
  • GIS In Action 2005, March 28-29 in Portland. Looking for paper/session proposals by January 3rd.
  • Society of Conservation GIS Meeting will be held near the end of January in Corvallis
    Training:
  • SDE/ArcIMS in January (Theresa will schedule)

Questions were raised about the scope/structure/purpose of GIS Day. Lively discussion followed. Some of the Research Assistants feel that they are carrying too much of the burden of GIS Day. The concerns were noted, and this will be looked at when preparation for 2005 GIS Day begins.

    Next Meeting January 13th
