  • ImageServer software - It can serve not only images, but deliver data for analysis.
  • Cartography talks by Jonathan Brooks, as well as Aileen Buckley.
  • Linear Regression and Geographically Weighted Regresssions, available in the Toolbox.
  • Information on the ESRI Resource Centers
  • Cartographic representations only available with geodatabases
  • Python and geoprocessing integration
  • Online imagery is no longer in beta
  • Mapplex label manager - improvements in annotation
  • 9.3 has backward compatibility

    Meetings:

  • Kelly C. will be attending the Northwest GIS User Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho (Oct 20-24). Keith is also considering attending.
  • Theresa will present a poster at Managing Sensor Data in Near Real Time, Environmental Information Management 2008, University of New Mexico, September 10, 2008-September 11, 2008.
  • Patti to an NHD Workshop sponsored by the USGS in Lacey, Wa. (went to the Portland workshop instead)
  • APSPRS meeting in Vancouver, Wa. Sept. 19th

    Training

Theresa will be attending an USFS SDE training for the data centers.

    Training needs:

  • What's new in 9.3
  • At the Sept 25 meeting Patti will arrange to have Craig Greenwald from ESRI give a presentation on ESRI mobile technologies.

    Software

  • ArcGIS 9.3 is here. Theresa will talk to Jerry and Mark about users in the forgis group getting access to install it on their own computers.
  • ArcGIS Server 9.3 has been installed on the new server, meridian.forestry.oregonstate.edu. Both the .NET framework and JAVA platform ADF's have been installed.

    Data

  • Requests are being made for the uncompressed versions of the 1/2 meter DOQ's from 2005 that the library has in compressed format. There was discussion about options, including whether the ESRI data site has the information, or if the USGS would be willing to get the data. Theresa can request specific project areas, but the requestor will need to supply media.
  • LARSE has 30m DEMs and NLCD 2001 data for all of the continental US in geographic projection (Approx 160GB)

    GIS Day

Mark your calendars for Nov. 19th. Let Theresa know if you want to help on the planning team.

    Round table:

  • Beth Timmons wanted to know if anyone had recommendations for a large-scale flatbed scanner.
  • Theresa - The USFS plotter should be fixed now.
In Arc 9.2, in order to add x,y data from an Excel spreadsheet without having to convert to a dbf first, you have to have at least SP4.
After testing of raster files in SDE, it is recommended that you don't convert them.
ESRI has an API for embedding maps in websites.
Testing the 9.2 ArcGIS Server capabilities.
  • Dave - GEO EYE-1 launch will be on Sept. 4th, and can be watched online.
  • Patti - DOGAMI (Dept. of Geology and Mineral Industries) is looking for partners to get LIDAR imagery for the Klamath Basin.
USGS has a new 42" plotter. (HP4500 PS)
