General
Kuuipo reported that OSU has not received 9.3 yet because there was a billing problem
many more rollouts of 9.3 to come in many different venues (User Conference, regional meetings)
most of the development hours went into ArcGIS Server
focus on quality: bug fixes, documentation, redesign of existing software
still need to uninstall previous versions of ArcGIS Desktop before installing 9.3
Geoprocessing enhancements
improved table and join functions
better error handling and messaging
error reporting directly to ESRI (much like Microsoft)
Updated Help Systems
graphic styling to help make more intuitive
videos added to help for step-by-step instructions
ArcGIS Desktop Resourc Center
portal to ArcGIS Desktop
capability to add layers, mxds from resource center
simplifies the process of connecting to remote servers
both free and premium based data will be available
premium vendors include TeleAtlas, iCubed, Metro regional government
resource centers for many different products (ArcGIS Server, Mobile, Engine, etc.)
Specific Enhancements
ability to convert graphics to feature classes
ability to clip rasters based on graphics

cartographic enhancements such as placement options and Mapplex improvements
ArcGIS Server 9.3
improved connectivity to remote services
vastly improved cached mapping tools
tight integration with ArcGIS Image Server
following more open protocols (WMS, WCS, KML)
Introduction to ArcLogistics
all tools profiled here are available through Network Analyst, just not as packaged as in ArcLogistics
John gave an example of optimizing the scheduling of sporadic pickup for refuse, which was very impressive
ability to give the model a number of specialized constraints
useful for scheduling anywhere from 5 – 1500 vehicles for route planning
can be extended to other applications (e.g. stream surveys)
OSU as an ESRI Development Center (EDC)
first academic institution in Northwest region to qualify
receive passes to the Palm Springs Developers’ Summit
receive two instructor-led courses presumably at OSU
Kuuipo Walsh acts as the local contact for this program
