Agenda

1. Meetings

  • FOSS4G will be in Victoria, BC from September 24-27, 2007. The annual Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) conference brings together the people who create, use, and support open spatial software. $575 Canadian for the full conference and workshops. Matt will be attending.
  • LTER Information Managers Meeting in San Jose, CA August 2-5 (Theresa is attending. Michael Goodchild is speaking at the meeting)
  • The NW GIS User Group will be held from September 10-14 in Tacoma. So far, nobody from the groups is planning on attending
  • Geoprogramming group meeting: George and Michael presented ways to create and connect to ArcGIS Server web and map services. Next meeting is scheduled for August 22nd. We are planning on having a show and tell where we bring ideas for models to build. (and try to build them).

    2. Training Needs:

  • ArcGIS Server training in July is still available, in Eugene. (anyone go?) No.
  • Keith and Kelly would like a brief help session on how to get started creating a simple web map service on arcGIS Server. Theresa V. and Terralyn V. said they would help sometime in August. Some limited data can be put on the arcGIS server ‘Zephyrs’.

    3. Possible Future Speakers

  • Jim Meacham (or somebody) from the UO Infographics Lab (http://geography.uoregon.edu/infographics/). Matt is going to contact Jim on this.
  • Dylan Keon (Department of Geosciences) on modifying Google Apps for web mapping.
  • Matt is willing to do a presentation on what he learned at the open source conference in Vancouver (in October or November).

    Data

  • Moving data/fordata off of Unix drive. Theresa had some issues with virtual directory links on the UNIX side. Nobody has tried it yet.

    5. ArcGIS Server: What's available? Copy of subset of data/fordata at Andrews…can we set up web service?

Theresa is trying to setup a ArcGIS Server for the Andrews so data can be manipulated and analyzed here at COF but served via a web mapping service to personnel at the Andrews. This would improve wait times at the Andrews and eliminate the need for duplicate datasets at the Andrews. She is currently working on getting .NET to work so she can edit the web service on arcGIS Server.

    Round table

Kelly C. installed acrobat 8.1 and it broke arcGIS 9.2. He has to reinstall!!!! Ugg! – Theresa V. is working with IGERT folks and working out some trigonometry challenges with plot data. She is attempting to get ARC to import xy coords at a set rotation angle and rotation point. – Keith O. is having issues with a slow response time to opening an arc prompt at a dos window (35 secs). Jerry suggested checking my profile against others to see if it’s something about my particular login. Others chimed in with slow start times for arcMap and arcCatalog.

    Next Meeting August 23
