John talked about his work on a dynamic risk assessment model for invasive plant species in the Pacific Northwest.

Meetings:

  • ESA in Portland: first week in August
  • ESRI Conference in San Diego: 2nd week in August (George might be attending, Theresa will be attending)
  • Discrete Global Grids: Ashland October 27

    Training:

  • SDE/ArcIMS: Theresa will try and get a room scheduled for one day in July.

    ArcGIS 9.0 Upgrade:

  • Keith Reynold's EMDS program doesn't work with ArcGIS 9; it was created for an earlier version.
  • There is no developer kit with v9.
  • The College of Forestry doesn't have the ArcGLOBE data CD yet.
  • Theresa Valentine is having a problem with a grid classified in v8.3 not opening in v9, in fact crashing ArcMAP9.
  • V9 is not back-compatible, and if an earlier version mxd is opened and saved in v9 it will not be readable with an earlier version.

    Disk Space Charges:

    Terralyn described the new Forestry Computing Committee policy on fees for network storage space.
    SDMG needs to discuss CoF GIS storage which is now on a Unix server being paid for by the shrinking Unix community.

    GIS Day:

    Theresa Valentine, John Wells, and Ken Vance-Borland volunteered to be the Forestry GIS Day committee.

    Round Table:

  • A new OSU Geographic Information Science certificate program has replaced the Environmental Information Science and Technology program. Professionals can take classes to get certified, or students can get a certificate along with their degree. See GIS Certificates for more information.
