Data:
2005 1/2 meter DOQ's: Theresa showed actual 1/2 meter data of Corvallis. We looked at the OSU stadium and we could see all the field markings. Note: I could not view the 1/2 meter data in ArcGIS 9.0 on my Forest Service machine. State system will hopefully be up in January 2007 and will have 'clip/zip/ship' and you should be able to add this as a backdrop in ArcMap (as you would the terraserver)
2005 County Mossaics: These are large files to download, so if folks will send what data they have downloaded, Theresa will make a web page under Tips and Tricks to list what counties are local and who has the data.
Round Table:
Kelly: Was using Siuslaw National Forest Landslide data and found that the acres field was off (as doing final review of publication). Was able to re-calculate and used log files to find out who had done the work (Theresa was happy it wasn't her when she was on the Siuslaw) Kelly is also looking for 7th field watersheds for the cascades. Theresa suggested he contact Rosanna C(rcostello@fs.fed.us) at the Willamette National Forest
Terralyn: Learing Pearle scripting. Bev Law's group is using "R" and NetCDF
Heather: Editing and learning, getting to know the job
Matt: New Baby (congrates), Heather has them documenting their processes. Terralyn has installed MEDIWIKI on sandbox and using this to docuemnt processes. Tim Holt has loaded simulation software called celestia. Matt introduced Theresa to wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
John: looking for a convertor to convert netCDF files to files that can be read in arcgis. Question came up about the advantages of netCDF, so the notetake did a search on wikipedia and came up with the following link: netCDF (network common data form)
Dave: His USGS GIS conference was good. Had about 8 people at his talk (after lunch) and met his time limit goal :). He'll try and send out his notes on the conference. He said that they were told that arcgis 9.2 would be out in the fall, would have a history archive (like a log file?), would be making geodatabase easier to use, and address users needs. Also noted that Lidar was getting less expensive, which could be good!. He learned about this websit called zillow.com where you can go and see what your house is worth. Theresa will put it up as an image of the month.
Next Meeting:
June 15th
Treats: Kelly
Notes: Dave
John will be looking for speakers. Pencil in George L. for October meeting.
