    Updating the GIS HelpDesk:

The CFSL GIS/RS HelpDesk web page needs to be updated, particularly the list of contact people. Those of us attending these meetings who are willing to be on that list should send our contact info, areas of expertise, etc. to Theresa.
The Intro to GIS/Remote Sensing in Forest Science Research Network page also needs to be updated, web links checked, etc. Kelly C. will do this.

Data Storage Issues: nothing to report

Set up for ArcServer and ArcIMS update:

Terralyn is moving all of ArcIMS over to the PC side. She is looking for a name for the new ArcIMS/ArcGIS Server machine.

GIS Day 2005 Planning Update: (theresa)

LTER got some grant money to do supplemental education. They will put this towards GIS Day. The $2000 will help rent LaSells Stewart Center. Students will meet there, have an intro, do the GPS walk and live demos, and a "kids' keynote" at 11:30-ish before heading back to school. Matt will be in the process of handing off the GPS walk duties to Mark Meyers (Geosciences). Students will be able to do hands-on GIS stuff in Saturday Academy the Saturday after GIS Day. This program is an ongoing supplemental education program offered by OSU for Corvallis kids.
We'll want to have some big maps for the LaSells Stewart Center lobby.
We will still have a poster session in Richardson as usual, a keynote in Richardson or FSL, and perhaps hands-on demos for adult attendees.

    Upcoming speakers (possibilities):

  • Jeff McDonnell, OSU Forest Engineering -- Hydrologic Observatory
  • Jeff Nighbert on using Visual Nature Studio (perhaps a special longer training/seminar?)
  • Visualization tag team: ArcGlobe (Theresa) and Visual Nature Studio (Keith)
  • Remote Sensing topic? Jonathan Thompson

    Round Table:

  • Ethics in GIS class at OSU Geosciences in Fall 2005
  • Kelly and Luca got to go to Alaska for a week to see brown bears and squeeze fish.
  • Matt & co. got a grant to play video games, er, to do forest visualization using a game engine. Tim Holt, prior illustrious presenter, will be heading up this effort.
