SDMG Notes - February 16, 2006
Treats: Jerry M
Notes: Keith O
Meeting:
Scripting meeting in Portland on 2/21/06. Theresa will represent the SDMG and let them know what we are doing.
The Python Group Meeting Feb. 23rd
Training: ESRI spatial stats seminar, available on-line. Pretty good. link
Fordata workspace discussion continued. Demo of using layer files
No additional charge for Fordata SDE setup.
Theresa demonstrated her Oregon DOQ index system. It’s a layer file at (t:\GIS\index\oregon_doqlist.lyr) and it has built in relates to attach all the CD#s to the quad index. Cool.
Points can be added to a blank shapefile or feature class using the editor menu in arcMap. Once editing has been started (and create points is active) the user can right click and chose absolute XY. This allows direct entry of map coords.
Guest Speaker format discussion
Here's the plan: Guest speakers every other month. Matt and John will coordinate getting speakers to come to the meeting. Some ideas for future talks:
Cluster computing (what can it do and what’s involved)
Modeling (wildlife, atmospheric, vegetation) and tiling for parallel processing.
Round Table:
Theresa: Da Vinci Days opportunities for GIS outreach. Kool Apps talk was interesting (Portland Maps)
Matt: Hiring process started for new database/GIS position. Two years of funding.
Keith: Working on slope position algorithm. Any suggestions appreciated.
Dave: Issues with front page and arcCatalog
Kelly: Party! Third Thursday at 3 in FSL269.
Next meeting:
March 16, room 313 in Richardson (assuming available) at 10AM.
April 20, also at 10 in room 313.
