The 171 ha Holton Creek RNA, located approximately 8 km west of Talent, Jackson County, Oregon, protects an intact watershed for animal and plant species associated with old growth habitat. The RNA was designated for old growth Douglas fir-white fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii-Abies concolor) forest and for the calcareous deposits and resulting formations in the stream channel. Vegetation consists of white and Douglas fir with dwarf Oregon grape (Berberis nervosa); Pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii) enters the association on the upper slopes. Ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) Douglas fir, and Pacific madrone dominate the ridgelines. Elevation ranges from 800 to 1,200 m. Soil series represented are Vanoy, Carris and Offenbacher. Annual precipitation averages 76 cm. There is evidence of three fires in the last 250 years.
