The temperature of the Biscuit Fire
Fire
temperatures across the 6-acre
measurement plots of the LTEP experiments as
measured by the extent that aluminum tags melted
that were attached to rebar marking our 25-m grid
system.
Initial result:
Fire intensity—based on condition of
Al
tags on rebar marking the 25-m grid systems—was greatest in the Panther Lake plots, and least
in the underburn plot and control plots.
Note that the Fairview plots were burned (less hotly) in the backburn. These temperatures are enough to volatilize N, S, and possibly P and
K. Further studies are needed to examine these potential losses.
