The Pacific Northwest Ecosystem Research Consortium Willamette River
Basin Map is a high resolution land cover map of the Willamette basin
using 1988 and 1992 LANDSAT Thematic Mapper data combined with ground
reference data from a variety of sources, but primarily from aerial
photography interpretation. The product of this effort is a thematic
digital map of 23 land use/land cover classes.

Description
Abstract:
This data set is an ARC/Info GRID layer or Imagine8.3 image file of 23
Land Use/Land Cover classes within the Willamette River Basin, Oregon.
The cover classes depict the forest, natural, agricultural, and urban
conditions of the entire basin.
Purpose:
To provide a highly accurate, high spatial resolution vegetation cover
digital image of the Willamette River Basin for use in forest & wildlife
management and regional ecology studies.
Supplemental_Information:
Procedures_Used:
Five different LANDSAT Thematic Mapper images from 1992 were interpreted
for spectral variation and labelled using ground reference data from a
variety of sources. For details, see http://www.fsl.orst.edu/larse/wrb/wrb.html.
Supplemental_Information:
Revisions:
This version of the Willamette River Basin map is a condensed version of
Version 2, with several of the less accurate agricultural classes collapsed
to improve overall accuracy. Row crops and field crops were collapsed, and
the pasture, vineyard, natural, and Christmas tree classes were all combined.

LANDSAT TM imagery, which was acquired from the USGS EROS Data Center
in Sioux Falls, SD. To train and test the imagery, we used a wide
variety of ground reference data sets, including GIS coverages, aerial
