Where's Aldo? An Old-Growth Visual Exploration Proposal
Building on the spirit of a forestry professional who had a unique gift for the practice and communication of science, Where's Aldo? is a virtual interpretive tour of an old-growth ecosystem. Information about old-growth forest ecosystems from research at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest and LTER, which has a long, rich history of contributions to science and a tradition of effective interpretation for non-science audiences, will be presented in an innovative manner. Where's Aldo? will integrate findings from multiple scientific disciplines using a compelling electronic interface, including streaming web video with panorama and zooming capabilities, digital audio recordings, graphical displays of data, and rich-media embedding technology. The objectives are to communicate part of the vast wealth of research on old-growth forest ecosystems to the general public using an innovative, user-friendly, and multimedia technology while fostering a sense of wonder for old-growth forest ecosystems.
