    Abstract: The primary goals of the aquatics component of the Coastal Landscape Analysis and Modeling Study (CLAMS) are modeling the intrinsic capability and current and future condition of watersheds to provide good quality anadromous salmonid habitat and developing relationships between the channel and terrestrial environment. A foundation layer for this effort is a high quality stream layer. A stream layer is also an input for generating the parcels used in the landscape simulation model and for developing some of the wildlife suitability indices.  A stream layer registered with a DEM allowed for better integration with the landslide and debris flow models and improved determination of attributes such as: 1) an indication of amount and direction of flow; 2) extent of anadromous fish distribution; 3) gradient; and 4) valley floor width. The objectives for the stream layer are to: 1) represent natural variation in drainage density; 2) be positionally accurate; 3) represent the actual extent of the drainage network; 4) be consistent/coincident with digital elevation models (DEM); 5) be compatible with landslide modeling and debris flow routing output; 6) be usable in other CLAMS modeling efforts and 7) have associated stream attributes. Since existing stream layers were too coarse, positionally inaccurate, and of limited extent, we modeled streams using DEMs.

  Completeness_Report: Streams were created within all 5th fields in the CLAMS study area. Exceptions occurred in 5th field hydrologic units (HU) that straddle the Willamette River. Only streams draining into the Willamette on the west side were completed. Edits to the dem to overcome drainage blocks were done on 1709000302 (a partial 5th field HU). No edits were done to the vector coverage. Specific parameters and rules relevant to stream creation can be obtain from the Contact Person.
