Cooperative Forest Ecosystem Research
Research Team

The Research Team within the Cooperative Forest Ecosystem Research (CFER) program consists of principal investigators, cooperating scientists, research assistants, and graduate students.

Principal Investigators (P.I.s)
The CFER P.I.s, from both USGS Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center (FRESC) and Oregon State University (OSU), are responsible for developing proposals and research projects, conducting research, and administering the program. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of CFER, the P.I.s reflect a range of disciplines and experience in ecology and management of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

CFER P.I.s include:

Dr. David Hibbs, CFER Program Coordinator/ Silviculture/Plant Ecology, OSU
Dr. Jason Dunham, Aquatic Ecology, FRESC
Dr. W. Daniel Edge, Wildlife Biology, OSU
Dr. Robert E. Gresswell, Aquatic Biology, USGS NRMSC
Dr. Judith Li, Aquatic Ecology, OSU
Dr. Klaus Puettmann, Forest Ecology, OSU
Dr. Steven Perakis, Forest Ecology, USGS FRESC
Dr. Christian Torgersen, Aquatic Ecology, USGS FRESC

Cooperating Scientists
Program funds are provided to other scientists to pursue specific research questions. Researchers may also collaborate on specific projects that meet the goals of the CFER program.

Research Assistants
OSU Research Assistants assist in development of research projects, coordinate and conduct field research, and supervise field technicians.

Research Assistants include:

Doug Bateman, Aquatic Ecology
David Hockman-Wert, Aquatic Ecology
Tom Manning, Wildlife Ecology

Graduate Students
Some Oregon State University (OSU) graduate students are involved in CFER through research that is conducted as part of their graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees. These graduate students are affiliated with the College of Agricultural Sciences (Department of Fish and Wildlife [F&W], Department of Botany and Plant Pathology [BPP]) and the College of Forestry (Department of Forest Science [F.S.]).

Current graduate students involved in CFER projects include:

Michelle Donaghy Cannon, F.S. And F&W
Joselin Matkins, F.S.
Bill Rehe, F&W
Aaron Thiel, F.S.
