Site Locations
| The Young Stand Study
takes place in the Willamette National Forest in western Oregon. The forest
itself is 1.7 million acres (approx. the size of Delaware), situated mainly
on the west slope of the Cascade Mountain Range. Until recently the Willamette
National Forest was the largest timber producer in the nation. There are
over 60,000 acres of second growth forests 30-50 years
old within the forest, with another 100,000 acres less than ten years younger(USDA
Forest Service 1990, p. IV-43).

Blue River Sites Treatment Areas (TAC) 1-4 are located on the Blue River Ranger District, west of Cougar Reservoir and FS Road 19. Click here for expanded view of study sites. |

Oakridge Sites Two sites, Christy Flats (North, TAC's 9-12) and Sidewalk Creek (South, TAC'S 13-16), are located approximately 18 miles north of the town of Oakridge, on Aufderheide Drive, FS Road 19. Click here for a close up view of these study sites. |
